Shinshibaura Canal Bank Green Area
Walk from the Tamachi Station East Exit crossing to Shibaura Elementary School; after you cross the Kashimabashi bridge, you will see a walkway along the Shinshibaura Canal to your right. The 10 gas lamps between Katoribashi and Takeshibabashi bridges go on automatically at twilight.
On the walkway you will see “Riverside trio” by Akihiko Kurokawa. The statue is composed of trumpet and saxophone players sitting on the bench and a lady playing the flute standing between them. You will feel like swinging along with their music when you sit next to them. Shinshibaura Canal Bank Green Area stops at Katoribashi bridge; after Tamachi Station from the foot of Shinshibabashi bridge in front of Tamachi Station you can descend on both sides and continue to Katoribashi bridge on the east side and Moshiobashi bridge on the west.
This area was once known as Shibanoura and was a popular swimming and moon viewing spot. Later it was filled in and the natural environment was been ruined. Now thanks to redevelopment of the area, the Shinshibaura Canal Bank Green Area has become a place for relaxing near the water amid the calm atmosphere of a canal.

Shinshibaura Canal Bank Green Area received the 2001 Hand-crafted Locality Prize, awarded by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for high-quality societal investment creating individuality and charm in a local area. The low banks and plants allow easy access to the waterfront and the green area, with its lamps and walkway, is an area that local workers and residents are proud and visit frequently.
