This monument was constructed to commemorate the first Antarctic exploration team that departed from Shibaura in 1910. Play equipment in the shape of a 25-meter long and 12-meter tall ship is modeled on the Kainan-maru that sailed to the Antarctic Ocean. A spray pond was built in the shape of the Antarctic Continent. If you look out over the spray pond from the ship, you can imagine penguins on the Antarctic continent coming to welcome you. There is also a little-league baseball field, reminding visitors that Japanese professional baseball was born on this spot in 1920. The stadium has artificial turf, stands and lighting for night games.
